So you must have heard about the Vogue Paris spread of October 2009 where the model was painted brown. The point of the photographer was to show that one face, Lara Stone's face, could apply in a black girl, an arrabic girl, a hispanic girl and in a white girl. Now French Voque is being accused of racism.. hmmm.. what to think of that huh!
I mean, there are so many beatifull brown skinned models only think about Chanel Iman ( mos def going to post her one time) Selita Ebanks, Alek Wek, Kiara Kabukuru, Noemie Lenoir, Oluchi Onweagba, Naima Mora... must I go on? So if they wanted a dark model, why not just book one in stead of painting a light girl brown.
Im not sure what to think about this. Im torn. Obviously the Lara Stone pictorial is gorgeous but I am not so sure about the message it brings. Lets hope Carine Roitfeld's spread wasnt meant to provoke. But one thing is clear, it was a little insensetive..
Anyways, there are many thoughts on this subject and some people will see this spread as racist, others will see it as art. When you are right you cannot be too radical; when you are wrong, you cannot be too conservative. I just thought, lets post a brown girl painted white to compensate! So here we go, our beloved Tyra Banks painted white :) Or maybe thats of poor taste too? :S Aaah, what the heck, they both looks fantastic, black or white!
